The 9,000-square-foot collaborative workspace at 330 A St. in downtown San Diego is the result of extensive research and planning by founders Michael Kenny and Robert Conrad. The pair assembled a team that included Carrier Johnson + CULTURE, Wimmer Yamada and Caughey, Crawford & Co. and BYCOR General Contractors, all of whom are committed to sustainable design and construction efforts. This dedication to green building is based on Co-Merge’s emphasis on collaboration.
“Our goal was to create a collaborative work environment that provides workers the choice of hourly or unlimited monthly usage along with real-time networking opportunities with other Co-Merge members,” said Kenny. “Our members are entrepreneurial thinkers who want to maximize efficiency and, most importantly, connect with other professionals to build their network. Every aspect of Co-Merge was designed to be a ‘smart’ workplace solution, including its environmentally friendly construction.”
At Co-Merge, users will benefit from a custom professional networking system that allows them to share online documents and go paperless, while also expanding their network to include other members. Wireless, video conference rooms and private conference rooms are available for rent, also by the hour or day. The design of the workspace is open and contemporary to facilitate more interaction and a spirit of collaboration. The workplace solution provides users with the ability to use and pay for space on a convenient hourly “drop in” rate with no minimum required, or an affordable monthly unlimited membership.
Developing Co-Merge responsibly was also very important to Kenny and Conrad. During demolition of the 50-year-old building, more than 120 tons of debris were diverted from landfills and recycled. More than 90 percent of the steel used in construction consists of recycled content. Insulation is also made from recycled materials and is formaldehyde free.
Co-Merge’s eco-friendly features include but are not limited to:
Kenny added, “We created Co-Merge to deliver flexibility to entrepreneurs looking for the professional space they need, when they need it. The result is a workplace solution ahead of the curve.”
Hourly rates are $10 per hour with parking included and monthly memberships are offered at $500. Members can choose what space, features and amenities they need at any one time and craft a workplace solution that fits their business and budget.

There are private video and phone conference rooms, a kitchen with eating area, and a vault with lockers and filing cabinets for members who want to store personal or business items securely. The hip reception area features a large flat screen TV and professional full-time reception service. A state-of-the-art training room is ideally suited for meetings, lunch and learns, events and gatherings, and is able to accommodate up to 80 people depending on configuration.
